The HISP Zanzibar project

Useful links

Background (August 2006)

The HMIS has been in the process of implementation in Zanzibar for eight months and significant progress has been made in terms of developing a national indicator set, a related data set and data collection tools for both PHC and hospitals. Extensive training and support has happened at all levels and a database has been adapted and installed at district and national level. Data has been collected monthly at facility level, retroactively for 2005 and proactively for the first 7 months of 2006. This data has been reported to district level, where it has been entered onto the DHIS database and analysed according to the agreed upon indicators including indicators related to the Millennium Development Goals.

Overall Goal

The development of a HMIS for Zanzibar that will enable health managers to monitor health service delivery performance and progress towards the Millennium Development Goals
