Pentaho is an open-source Business Intelligence framework. There have been some experiments in how to make use of Pentaho in a DHIS context. The blurb:
"The Pentaho BI Project provides enterprise-class reporting, analysis, dashboard, data mining and workflow capabilities that help organizations operate more efficiently and effectively. The software offers flexible deployment options that enable use as embeddable components, customized BI application solutions, and as a complete out-of-the-box, integrated BI platform."

Projects
There were three student projects related to Pentaho during the INF5750 class at the University of Oslo, fall 2007. (Add summaries here.) They made extensive use of Kettle, whose official name is now Pentaho Data Integration.
- Group 1
: Integration with EPI INFO
- Group 2: Integration with Excel
- Group 3 (MozBos): Using Kettle as an abstraction layer for DHIS 1.4 and 2.0
- Group 4: Customize and document the use of the Pentaho data analysis tool JPivot
- Group 5: Develop DHIS dashboard solutions based on the Pentaho framework
- Group 6: Explore data integration with Pentaho using the DHIS 2 API (data provider)
